Wild Bird Wednesday #201 – Blue Jay

Wild Bird Wednesday #201

The Blue Jay (link to “anting” behavior article) visited again today, and this time, the camera was at hand! It’s been perching where highly visible, hoping I’ll show up with peanuts or Jim’s Birdacious Bark Butter Bits

Share Your World–2015 Week 49

Share Your World

Week 49? Oh, it is December, isn’t it? I’m living in the past–like November, still. I’m pretty sure I’ll be finished with it and ready for December soon. When I think I’m getting ahead (or just caught up) something forgotten comes to my attention.

I soaked in the warmth and Christmas atmosphere at my local Wild Birds Unlimited Saturday. The display of snowy white owls, snowmen, and polar bears beheld the soft grandeur of winter–without the cold. I was at peace, satisfied that Christmas shopping is going well. I stopped to observe the wildlife ornaments decorating their Christmas tree. That’s when it dawned on me: I haven’t put up the tree!

My next stop was Plow & Hearth. They have all kinds of wonderful things! I found this Santa, complete with TREE in his bag, a couple of birds and a BUNNY, too. You know that came home with me. I proudly sat it atop the entertainment center and announced, “There, I’ve decorated, complete with tree!”

Now, we can get down to the business of Share Your World. Here are Cee’s questions for this week, I hope you’ll share your answers, too.

What would be your ideal birthday present, and why?
I would like all sadness, brokenness, and despair in this world be replaced with a smile on every face.

What color would you like your bedroom to be?
A softly muted sea glass.

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?
I prefer NO SNOW in my winter. I no longer see it as fun, but as a messy chore for hubby because I’m not able to help with shoveling. He’s not getting any younger. 😉

Would you rather go a week without bathing, but be able to change your clothes, or a week without a change of clothes, but be able to bathe?
I’d rather be able to bathe.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Grateful to be over a cold, looking forward to warmer temps (in the 60s) later this week.

Now it’s YOUR turn.

You Picked a Winner!

This picture was included in a previous post, and received rave reviews from you, the viewing public.

Last month, our local Wild Birds Unlimited stores held their 3rd annual photo contest. I have never entered photos in a contest, but since you liked this one so much, I cropped it and printed it and took it to the store.

I received a phone call, and then this in their latest email:

The Votes Have Been Counted And The Results Are In!

And The Winners of Our 3rd Annual Photo Contest Are:

In Virginia Beach:

  • Best Wild Bird – Isabelle Luthere
  • Best Wild Critter – Pam Monahan
  • Best Pet – Janice Young

In Chesapeake:

  • Best Wild Bird – Herbert Thomas
  • Best Wild Critter – Patti Jarrett
  • Best Pet – Stuart McCausland

Thanks to everyone who entered. There were many great pictures. And congratulations to the winners. They will each win a $25 gift card to our stores.

Guess I should take my winnings and go buy some more peanuts! Thank you, for your encouraging and affirming words, and giving me the confidence to “go for it!”

It’s That Time of Year–GBBC

It’s time for the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), that’s what! The dates this year are February 17-20.

You can find more info here and here. And here’s a link to the post I wrote about it last year.

Please consider participating. It’s good for the birds, and you might find a new hobby while you’re at it. Fifteen minutes is all the time required.

How can you resist? 🙂

Squirrel-y Day

Quick post tonight, I have an early morning appointment.

I found it interesting the way this squirrel leaves its tail dangling outside the feeder. I had noticed it on the side closest to me earlier, but it moved by the time I got the camera. Hope you enjoy my furry friends!

Yum Yum Yum
I'd better pose, before she posts an embarrassing photo of me on her blog.

I stopped in Wild Birds Unlimited for some seed today–and bought myself a “little something.”

I’m not fully convinced that I won this battle…

P.S. However, after it was too dark to get a picture, a cardinal showed up and got right in…and there was still seed left for it! VICTORY!!
