Randomness on Monday

Sharing a bit of randomness from our weekend at a BattleFrog Obstacle Course Race (OCR). This is a new series of OCRs, designed by U.S. Navy Seals. Our son-in-law ran the 5K with 13-year-old daughter (her first race); then he ran the 15K. The next four, aged 4, 7, 8, and 9, participated in the Tadpole division.

1. We didn’t get out of town soon enough, Friday. It took us well over an hour to get through the tunnel and on our way. Normally, that takes about 15 minutes.

2. That night we checked into a hotel in the area of the race, and got about five hours sleep. Next time, we’ll leave earlier in the day!

3. We arrived at the venue, Tomahawk MX, around 7:45 a.m. under cloudy skies. That turned out to be a blessing, as it made the temperature more bearable for both athletes and spectators.  The U.S. Navy Seals demonstrated rescue operations twice that day. You can see how overcast the sky was.

4. On their way to the 4th (I think) obstacle, Peyton lost her shoes in the thick mud. She got them back on her feet and she and her dad were running again. You can see where the mud was up over her ankles. Then they were off into the woods, and we wouldn’t see them until the last few obstacles.

Meanwhile, the Tadpoles were warming up for their event. Clicking a photo in the gallery will bring up a slide show.

5. After a day’s hard work, it was back to the hotel for some pool time. No one seemed to mind that the water was c-c-c-cold.

I have photos of the obstacles that were visible to us. Are you interested in seeing more of this?
