1. I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.
2. We’ll be heading off to see the grandchildren SOON, so I may not get to visit your blogs until next week. It looks like I might have a hard time getting my hands on the baby, though.

4. I was in the kitchen when a pigeon flew into the window. It gave me quite a start, being so loud; I went out to see if it was in the yard, which it was. I thought most certainly its neck was broken as it lay there, feet in the air. After donning disposable gloves, I gently picked it up, the head came around to align with the feet and it tried to fly. It spent the morning on the patio, and walked around to the back of the shed while I filled birdbaths and watered plants. I hope it will be okay.
5. Several of its friends/family went for a dip. backyard 2013 042

I hope you’ve found a place to stay cool, or warm, depending on which hemisphere you reside. Have a great weekend!

Fat, er, Flat Tuesday

I arose early this morning with big plans for the day and promptly set about laundry, tidying up–and just as quickly pulled a muscle in my lower back–unloading that new dishwasher, nonetheless! One would think I’d have learned that lesson by now, heat and stretches come first.

The day was spent standing or stretching out with ice and/or heat. When I was up, I washed the pots and pans that awaited in the sink, read email/blogs at the kitchen counter, and kept an eye on the birds. A hawk stopped by, but left with empty talons. It was too quick for me to photograph.

The hardest part of the day was missing writers group tonight.

Here’s another slideshow so you can see some different visitors, most of these only show up at the feeders in winter:

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “raining cats and dogs,” haven’t you?

On a recent evening when shooting a sunset, this large flock (also called a kit or loft) of pigeons began circling the area, looking for a place to spend the night, I suppose. I’m just glad they didn’t find our house!

Saturday, the rain came, and stayed. Though it rendered the day dark and dreary, a visit to the fabric store added a bolt of color that brightened my day.

I stopped in Wild Birds Unlimited for some seed today–and bought myself a “little something.”

I’m not fully convinced that I won this battle…

P.S. However, after it was too dark to get a picture, a cardinal showed up and got right in…and there was still seed left for it! VICTORY!!
