Wild Bird Wednesday #201 – Blue Jay

Wild Bird Wednesday #201

The Blue Jay (link to “anting” behavior article) visited again today, and this time, the camera was at hand! It’s been perching where highly visible, hoping I’ll show up with peanuts or Jim’s Birdacious Bark Butter Bits

    • I wasn’t aware of the “anting,” and found it interesting. Some days the Blue Jays will sit on the corner of the shed patio cover or the top of the pole and harp loudly to tell me they are there and the peanuts are not! LOL I love it. One used to catch them in the air when I tossed them out. What fun they are.

  1. You are so good at being in the right place at the right time! It is almost as though these critters pose for you! Beautifully done, again

  2. What a beautiful bird! We put out peanuts for a jay that comes to our feeders. I’ve never heard of Bark Butter Bits. Do you put them put them out all year? We live on the Texas Gulf Coast and I wonder if they would melt in our summer heat.

  3. The recent reviews (last 2-3 years) say they can be used year-round, and one of the reviewers was in Naples. FL. I limit where I put them, as some birds (a multitude of Starlings) would polish them off in no time.
