The International Azalea Festival garden gate

Close-up detail

On one of our walks, we found a statue dedicated to the 200 women and 20 men who cleared the land and began cultivation of the gardens in the 1930s. Here is a brief article that tells of its fascinating history, it’s ties to NATO, and the annual azalea festival.
