Just Peeking In

Downy Woodpecker–just peeking in on you

Northern Mockingbird

No sooner than hubby asked if the mockingbird had been around in the cold weather, the very next day it showed up!

Here’s a view of the backyard featuring our second snowfall, eight inches or so.

It didn’t look pristine for long, hubby shoveled paths to the feeders. Wednesday may have been the first time ever he couldn’t get to work.  I wish he’d been able to enjoy his day off, but it was spent clearing snow, and fretting about orders that needed to be placed. This morning, he had to dig through the barricade of snow the plow left before he could get the car out of the driveway.

Have you ever wondered what the belly of a Yellow-rumped Warbler looks like?
Now you know!
Too soon, our day came to an end.

May you be warm, wherever you are today.

  1. The snow has been beautiful, but it’s been very inconvenient for many folks. Thankfully, hubby and I are semi-retired, and haven’t HAD to be anywhere. I think we’re all ready for spring, though. Neat picture of the Warbler’s belly!

    1. The roads still aren’t cleared very well, some of the lanes are quite narrow, waiting for the plowed snow to melt. Occasionally, we get an unexpected shot like the Warbler showing off his talents. Thanks for stopping by, Dianna.

    1. I enjoy watching the birds, such entertaining behavior, TBM. The bunny comes to eat as soon as dusk settles in, so I make sure there’s something on the platform for it to find. It looks like it is eating well!

  2. What a gorgeous sunset. The snow brings back memories from my childhood (and a good share of my adulthood) in northern Ohio and southeastern Michigan. Aren’t you glad it doesn’t happen often? I love the beauty of it, but the snow shoveling and cold, not so much. Blessings to you, Patti…

    1. The snow is pretty for the first day or two, then we’re ready for it to go away. Winters in WV were much as you observed as a child in Ohio and Michigan. It seemed there was snow on the ground the entire season. Blessings to you, Carol Ann.

  3. The snow is so pretty! And I love the sunset shot- just gorgeous.

Just last night, I was researching birds for a story and I wrote a mockingbird into it after I found out that northern mockingbirds are found in Arizona. Made me smile to see you had a photo of one here today!
