Teenage Angst

Paula stomped in and dropped her backpack with a thud.

“Having a bad day?” her mother tentatively inquired, hoping to avoid the spark that would ignite the powder keg that was her daughter.

“I hate Kevin Murphy!” she yelled, and ran to her room, slammed the door and buried her face in her pillow, sobbing.

A few minutes later, her mother tapped on the door, “May I come in?”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“Kevin was holding hands with Carmen!”

“Well, then, he’s not good enough for my daughter. There’s more than one koi in the pond.”

Linking to Friday Fictioneers. Why don’t you write a 100-word story and link up? You know you want to.

  1. Ah, the last line. I love it. And I’m betting Kevin was one of those plain, orange Koi, and not at all one of the brilliantly spotted fish.
