Hi there – sorry to ask, but what is that top picture!

Stewart, it is a carpenter bee. Very similar to a bumblebee. (Do you have those?) I think I had a better picture, guess I should have uploaded that one!

These pictures are exquisite, Patti. Is that a bat in that flower on the top?

No, it’s only a carpenter bee, Al.

I can see it now that you point it out. On my way out to get my eyeglass prescription updated.

Maybe you need a Seeing Eye Dog? 🙂 House trained, of course.

Great idea. We’ll send Bella over for training. Let us know when she is seeing-eye qualified (and house -broken).

Nice try Patti. We’re getting in the car and we’re on the way over. Don’t worry, we’re bringing plenty of dog food.

Loved the pictures. Wish you didn’t have to reach back into your archives for them, though. I’m getting pretty tired of this cold weather.

Great photos! for some reason, carpenter bees scare me, so I scrolled past that one real quick! It’s almost butterfly season, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you capture this year.

Thanks, Janna. I can see why the carpenter bee would scare you. They’re pretty good size, but they are quite content to focus on the flowers. I’m looking forward to warmer weather, too.

Such beautiful butterflies! I can’t ever get close enough to them to get a good picture.

Thanks, Trisha. The last one was a captive audience. It had recently emerged and not ready to fly yet. Usually, I chase butterflies around the butterfly bush until I’m tired, or get a good shot. Once in awhile, I get a shot. 🙂

Hi there again – OK, now I can work out what that top picture is – I had no idea of scale!
We only have bumble bees in Tasmania – and they are not native.
Glad you liked the cricket.

That is tricky with macros, Stewart, if there’s nothing familiar to compare it to in size.
