OpSail 2012, Graduation this Week

Our oldest granddaughter graduates this week. In preparation for that, I’m going to be away from my computer, and you, all my online friends. 😦

OpSail 2012 visited the port of Norfolk this year, the link will tell you all about it. Some of the photos in the slideshow were taken Thursday evening, as the ships gathered in the Chesapeake Bay for Friday morning’s Parade of Sail. We visited Sunday in Norfolk, and went aboard a ship from Ecuador. I don’t think I was cut out to be a sailor! But it was a fun experience.

See you next week!

  1. I love ships, but I am with you – I am not cut out to be a sailor. Very tiny cramped spaces on ships, not to mention sea sickness, and oh – being so far away from land that you can’t see it, let alone swim back.

    Beautiful photos!

Have a wonderful visit with your family! We will miss you and see you when you get back 🙂

    1. Thank you, Robin. Seriously, what does one do if a chocolate craving hits and there’s none on board? (Sea sickness would probably do away with any appetite, though). I joked with my niece that the helicopters we saw were Take-out Taxis!

  2. Congrats to your granddaughter!! And the pictures are great! How cool to live close enough to a big body of water so you’re able to see things like this…I live fairly close to a man-made lake…lots of small boats, but nothing like this!

  3. Your photos are gorgeous, Patti! We didn’t go on any ships, but enjoyed seeing them. This morning, we went to Ft. Monroe and watched the Parade of Sail as they headed out to Baltimore.
Enjoy your granddaughter’s graduation: I know you’re going to look “mahvelous”…!

    1. Thanks, Dianna. I was hoping to have the time to see them under sail. I hope you got lots of pictures to share. One of the local stations mentioned they’d have it for viewing–I should check those websites. I’m sure it’s not as good as being there. Thanks for the confidence boost. I’ll probably have to buy leg make-up to cover my bug bites! lol I ended up getting the rest of my accessories at Penney’s. We’ll have to have lunch again one day soon!

    1. Yes, Judith, Andy went along, though I failed to get a photo of Andy and our granddaughter in her cap and gown. Her dad drove her to the campus early in the morning for rehearsal and got some photos. There was a banquet immediately following the ceremony, so Andy stayed behind at the hotel.
He has met the family, and was a big hit with all of them, especially the girls.
