“They bleed red, so we wear red.”
(from RedShirtFridays.org)
Am I the last person to hear of this? If it weren’t for Facebook, you’d probably think I live in a cave, with no idea what is going on in the world around me!
You can find more information regarding this here, in case you, too, have never heard of it.
This was found on the Red Friday facebook page:
RED FRIDAYS —– Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the ‘silent majority’. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday – and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.. Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar will wear something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV — let’s make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.
If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED.
The first thing a soldier says when asked ‘What can we do to make things better for you?’ is…..We need your support and your prayers.
Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example.
Their facebook fan page shows over 687,000 participants. If you are on facebook, RSVP to show support for our troops.
We surely do need to keep our troops in our hearts and in our prayers, and we need to support them by encouraging legislation promoting proper healthcare for veterans and by meeting their other various needs. Wearing a red shirt is another good way to show our gratitude and support for our troops. Thank you for sharing this. I’ve not heard of it until now. Blessings to you, Patti…

Well said, Carol. They receive so little, yet sacrifice so much more than the population as a whole. Blessings!

I’ve been wearing red on Fridays for years now (I have 3 sons in the military). The practice is common in Canada as well as the US. Prayers are appreciated by not just the troops, but their families as well.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Three in the military? Wow. Thanks to them, and YOU, as that is not an easy life, especially for the mother.
